A TV reporter was fired over what the Sacramento International Auto Show called "astonishingly awful" behavior. In a live segment for KMAX's Good Day Sacramento, Angel Cardenas frolicked among classic cars before the auto show opened to the public, jumping on two 1950s Ford Thunderbirds, the Sacramento Bee reports. In video shared by a viewer, Cardenas said he was like a "kid in a candy store." "No one is out here to tell me which car I can’t go in because some of these are off limits so I’m just going to live on the wild side," he said before striking a pose on the trunk of a yellow Thunderbird.
He also dinged the door of another T-bird after opening the door of the neighboring car. "Nobody's looking," he said, before asking: "It's not dented, is it? There’s no paint?" He ended the segment by sneaking under a railing and jumping on the hood of a Ford SUV. The auto show says that after producer Stacey Castle Bascom spoke to KMAX about the "astonishingly awful incident," they were told Cardenas had been "terminated immediately." "This was an isolated incident with a rogue reporter and fortunately neither one of the cars was damaged," Bascom says. BuzzFeed reports that after a viewer emailed Cardenas about the incident, the reporter admitted that the segment had been a "dumb choice" on his part, though he said the door hitting was a "staged move."
