Though Ted Kennedy helped crush her presidential dreams by endorsing her rival, writes Eamon Javers in Politico, Hillary Clinton may find he ultimately gives her the job she’s made for: his. Kennedy has been the Senate’s center of Democratic gravity since his own White House bid failed in 1980, and with his career perhaps at an end, it’s “striking” to note the parallels.

Both were charged with nepotism and overshadowed by powerful family members; both were plagued by sex scandals; and both were targets for a generation of Republicans they nonetheless crossed the aisle to partner with. Like Teddy, Hillary was a national celebrity before she came to office—and like him she might be perfectly suited to be her party’s legislative leader. (More Hillary Clinton stories.)
