Versailles Is About to Get Its First Hotel

Let them eat cake, or at least order room service. For visitors who don't feel like traipsing back to their accommodations in Paris after visiting the Palace of Versailles, Curbed offers the following news: A luxury hotel is being built on the estate's premises, overlooking the gardens outside of the Orangery, where the palace stores its tropical plants in colder weather. Le Grand Controle, part of the Les Airelles chain, will feature 14 rooms, as well as an indoor swimming pool, wellness center, and Alain Ducasse-branded restaurant.

Not much else is being said of the hotel that's due to open sometime in 2020, but The Spaces reports it will be "steeped in history and filled with authentic elements" to make patrons feel like they're Marie Antoinette or Louis XIV during their stay. The hotel's interior is reportedly being designed by architect Christophe Tollemer, who has supervised other Airelles projects. (More Versailles stories.)
