Cardi B, a gang member? A rapper said so Thursday in federal court and sparked a flurry of reactions from the media and Cardi B herself. Rapper Tekashi69, real name Daniel Hernandez, brought it up when testifying about two members of the Brooklyn gang Nine Trey Bloods who allegedly kidnapped and robbed him, the New York Daily News reports. After admitting he joined the gang to advance his music career, Tekashi69 was asked:

  • Attorney: "You knew Cardi B was a Blood?"
  • Tekashi69: "Correct."
  • Attorney: "You knew Cardi B made music videos with Bloods in the background?"
  • Tekashi69: "Correct. I didn't pay attention."

Cardi B told GQ last year she was affiliated with the Bloods but kept it quiet "because I wouldn't want a young person, a young girl, to think it's okay to join it." Now she's saying Tekashi69 got it wrong. First she posted an apparent swipe at him on Instagram—a clip of actress Keke Palmer responding to a photo of Dick Cheney by saying, "I don't know who this man is." Then she posted a now-deleted tweet saying she was, or is, a member of the Brim Bloods rather than Nine Trey, per People: "You just said it yourself... Brim not 9 Trey. I never been 9 Trey or associated with them." Delve into the complexities of the Nine Trey case and its musical connections at TMZ. (Read more Cardi B stories.)
