The New York Post is pretty definitive about things: "The Eli Manning era is over." The assessment comes as the New York Giants benched the 38-year-old Tuesday in favor of rookie Daniel Jones. Manning and the Giants were off to an 0-2 start, having failed to rebound from last year's lackluster season. The AP notes that Manning took over as the Giants' starter in 2004 and had remained in place ever since.
Manning led New York to two Super Bowl wins over Tom Brady and the Patriots, in 2007 and 2011. In both games, Manning was named the game's MVP. The move comes after Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger went out for the season with an elbow injury. The Saints' Drew Brees also is out indefinitely with a hand injury.
