Alabama GOP Wants Omar Booted. She Has a Fiery Reply

Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar fired back at Alabama Republicans on Tuesday after they approved a resolution calling on her to be removed from office. The resolution requests that Alabama's congressional delegation "proceed with the expulsion process in accordance to Article 1, Section 5 of the U.S. Constitution," reports the Hill. Al.com reports the resolution takes issue with her "disturbing record of using anti-Semitic language" and attitude toward the 9/11 attacks and says she "has engaged in rhetoric that explicitly runs counter to American values and patriotism by falsely accusing US armed forces of committing war crimes while on mission to liberate her home country of Somalia."

Omar took to Twitter in response with this: "Sorry, @ALGOPHQ, but this is a representative democracy. I was elected with 78% of the vote by the people of Minnesota's 5th District, not the Alabama Republican Party. If you want to clean up politics, maybe don't nominate an accused child molester as your Senate candidate?" The last line is a reference to Roy Moore. USA Today reports there's "no chance" of getting the House to pass a measure to expel her; it would require at least 290 backers and the GOP only holds 197 seats. A separate set of headlines for Omar: The Star Tribune reports a Tuesday divorce filing by a DC doctor contained the allegation that her political consultant husband left her after beginning an affair with the married Omar. When asked by WCCO if she was dating someone or separated, Omar said no. (More Ilhan Omar stories.)
