The son of a former NFL player and his wife who were found dead in their home has been arrested in Mexico after a manhunt. Dylan Bennett had called a sheriff in Minnesota on Saturday to say he was going to turn himself in to the FBI, ABC reports. But before the sheriff could notify anyone, Mexican authorities took Bennett into custody in a hotel room in Cancun. Next, he'll be transferred to Minnesota. The body of Barry Bennett, 63, who was a defensive lineman for 11 seasons in the NFL, was found Wednesday in the entryway of the family home in Long Prairie. He had been shot in the head and torso, police filings say. The body of Carol Bennett, 66, was found on the kitchen floor; she had been shot in the back and torso. Autopsies indicated they were killed Monday.

The 22-year-old is charged with two counts of second-degree murder, per the Star Tribune. He doesn't have a criminal record. Barry Bennett had told the sheriff's department in December that his son had said he'd thought about killing his parents while he was in a mental health treatment facility, court filings say. He was living with his parents at the time of the slayings. Friends said the Bennetts raised four children, then adopted two young brothers with troubled backgrounds, per the Star Tribune. Dylan was their youngest child. "You’ve gotta be pretty motivated by love, care, and compassion for kids," a family friend said. "They were trying to salvage a couple of lives."
