There's more flies than fantasy aboard Carnival Fantasy, according to the cruise ship's failing grade during a surprise inspection last month. CDC inspectors found "not less than 15 small flies" on bagels and bread at breakfast; knives "stored in warm, soiled water"; dirty cups and bowls kept on a storage rack meant for clean dishes; insufficient sneeze guards; brown water spewing from two shower hoses in the medical center; and various other issues. They therefore granted the 855-foot cruise ship a sanitation score of 77 out of 100—well below the passing grade of 86. That's the worst-ever score for Fantasy, which received a 78 in 1990, and also the second-lowest score of any cruise ship during July inspections, reports Fox News. It's also the third-lowest score in Carnival's history, the worst being a 71 scored by Legend in 2006, per NBC News.

Investigators noted procedure wasn't followed after a crew member displayed symptoms of acute gastroenteritis. The ship also did not have an up-to-date "fecal and vomit accident response procedure," per Fox. "We have already taken corrective action, added additional staff and asked [United States Public Health] for a re-inspection as soon as possible, with every expectation that we will exceed USPH standards," says Carnival Cruise Line, already in trouble over pollution violations. It adds the results "are not reflective of our robust standards and dedicated commitment to our guests' health and safety." Per Fox, Bahamas Paradise Cruise Lines' MS Grand Classica and Royal Caribbean's Majesty of the Seas also failed the inspection with scores of 81 and 82, respectively. (A couple found what they said was a working camera pointed at their bed on Fantasy.)
