If you were eagerly anticipating Gawker's second coming, the New York Post dished up a cold dose of reality on Tuesday. It reported that Bustle Digital Group, which the New York Times reports picked up the Gawker.com domain a year ago for $1.35 million, laid off the entirety of the new Gawker staff and announced it was "postponing" the relaunch that had been slated for September. A BDG rep had this to say: "For now, we are focusing company resources and efforts on our most recent acquisitions, Mic, The Outline, Nylon and Inverse."

The Post goes on to detail trouble the new site has had in "attracting talent" and the allegations of crude and racist language made against editorial director Carson Griffith (a probe launched by the company cleared Griffith). She's now out, along with everyone else. The Cut, which quips "it's unclear if zombie Gawker will even come to exist," offers the best timeline of what's befallen the new version, starting in October 2016. Read it here.
