Daniel Salcido and Hannah Janiak had been on the run since June 11, when, police say, they were reported missing after Janiak didn't show up to start serving her jail sentence in Oregon for a burglary conviction. Cops found them in Kalispell, Mont., this week, but now the two are dead, and police are searching for their toddler son, the Daily Inter Lake reports. Aiden Castiel Salcido, said to be 2 or 3, was nowhere to be found when law enforcement in Flathead County discovered the bodies of Salcido and Janiak in a 1996 GMC SUV after a short car chase Wednesday evening. The couple had initially been pulled over for a moving violation, then fled during the interaction. Police put down spike strips, and the couple's car was soon forced to stop.

When police approached the vehicle, however, they found the couple dead, after an apparent murder-suicide—cops say Janiak looked to have been shot in the head, while Salcido had a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police say there was no evidence Aiden had ever been in the car with them. "Investigators are greatly concerned for Aiden's welfare," the Kalispell Police Department in Montana said in a statement, per CNN. "Hannah was described as a good mother. Family also said the trio were homeless and would camp along the greenway in Medford." The search area for Aiden stretches from Oregon to Montana. NBC Montana says the FBI is also involved in the investigation into Salcido and Janiak's deaths. (More missing child stories.)
