Possibly weary of the quiet, nonviolent offseason, the New Jersey Devils mascot shook up a child's birthday party Sunday by smashing into a plate-glass window. The young partiers had been playing with a rainbow parachute when, as the parachute hit the ground, NJ Devil turned his back on the kids and ran toward a large window, the Daily News reports. When he hit it, the glass broke into many pieces—unlike the Plexiglas he's used to in hockey arenas. The birthday boy's father posted a video on Instagram showing the possible attempt at slapstick humor. After the smash, there's a pause, and a woman can be heard saying, "Nailed it."

It was an accident, the father posted, thanking the Devil for attending and saying that the party was a success. The mascot has not released a statement. The team seemed to see the humor, putting a video on its Instagram page. A 30-minute party appearance by the Devil costs $250, per Sports Illustrated. Like any well-mannered guest, the Devil brings a gift for the honoree. (Read more mascot stories.)
