A day after his own commerce secretary and a Justice Department lawyer announced that the 2020 census questionnaire was being printed without the citizenship question President Trump wants, Trump denied the news. "The News Reports about the Department of Commerce dropping its quest to put the Citizenship Question on the Census is incorrect or, to state it differently, FAKE!" he tweeted Wednesday. "We are absolutely moving forward, as we must, because of the importance of the answer to this question." Per the Hill, the Commerce Department, DOJ, and White House haven't yet responded to requests for comment on Trump's tweet.

After the Supreme Court ruled against the inclusion of a citizenship question unless the White House could come up with better reasoning for it, the Justice Department said the census would contain "no citizenship question." Also Tuesday, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross issued his own statement, CNBC reports: "I respect the Supreme Court but strongly disagree with its ruling regarding my decision to reinstate a citizenship question on the 2020 Census. The Census Bureau has started the process of printing the decennial questionnaires without the question. My focus, and that of the Bureau and the entire Department is to conduct a complete and accurate census." (More 2020 census stories.)
