Kimono no more: Following a massive backlash, Kim Kardashian West says she is changing the name of her shapewear line. After Kardashian trademarked the word "Kimono" for the clothing brand, many were outraged, considering kimonos have been a traditional part of Japanese culture for centuries—not to mention the fact that the underwear Kardashian is peddling is ... not a kimono. A #KimOhNo hashtag was launched, a petition was started, and the mayor of Kyoto, Japan, even issued an open letter to Kardashian asking her to reconsider the name, NBC News reports. In a series of tweets Monday, Kardashian said she had gotten the message loud and clear.
"I am always listening, learning and growing - I so appreciate the passion and varied perspectives that people bring to me. When I announced the name of my shapewear line, I did so with the best intentions in mind," she wrote. "My brands and products are built with inclusivity and diversity at their core and after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name." Not all responses were positive; one skeptic wrote, "Ah yes, chaos marketing. Would be nice if marketing strategists could stop making intentionally terrible decisions to garner attention and instead do something wholesome and creative." (More Kim Kardashian stories.)
