Madonna Is Seriously Displeased With NYT Profile

In her New York Times profile on Madonna, Vanessa Grigoriadis quotes the singer as saying she "felt raped" by the early leak of songs from her last album, commenting "it didn't feel right to explain that women these days were trying not to use that word metaphorically." Now comes round two. "It makes me feel raped," Madonna writes on Instagram of the profile in general, adding, "yes I'm allowed to use that analogy having been raped at the age of 19." She argues the article (titled "Madonna at Sixty") focuses too much on her age—"which would never have been mentioned had I been a MAN!"—and other "trivial and superficial matters" like curtain fabric. There are inklings of her displeasure within the article itself. "I think you think about age too much," Madonna tells Grigoriadis, a NYT Magazine and Vanity Fair contributor, who apparently spent "months" with the singer.

"Stop thinking, just live your life and don't be influenced by society trying to make you feel some type of way about your age," Madonna continues in the article. Grigoriadis writes, "I admired her for shaking off prejudice about what an older woman could be." Still, she describes the singer as "committed to making meaning rather than giving herself over to old-lady nihilism" even though "the Greek chorus she had blocked out was seeping in, saying she was too old, washed up, out of ideas, finished." "Women have a really hard time being the champions of other women ... Im sorry i spent 5 minutes with her," Madonna said on Instagram. "The venerable N.Y.T. Is one of the founding fathers of the Patriarchy," she adds. "And I say—-DEATH TO THE PATRIARCHY woven deep into the fabric of Society." (Madonna also touched on President Trump.)
