Guy Calls 911, Complains About Cops Not Catching Him

Florida man Nicholas Carlmann Jones may not be the state's most law-abiding citizen—or its smartest criminal—but he still expects law enforcement to have certain standards. Police say the 19-year-old sped away from a deputy during a traffic stop in St. Augustine last month and then called 911 an hour later to gloat about it and complain about officers' incompetence, the St. Augustine Record reports. "I, like, ran from a cop 30 minutes to an hour ago," he said. "Like, what do we pay you guys for ... like I've driven past four cops," he said, believing, incorrectly, that the deputy had managed to get his license number. Asked what he meant by "ran from a cop," Jones told the dispatcher: "I mean, he turned his lights on me and got behind me and as he was walking up to my car I did a donut around him and left."

Police say Jones was arrested the next day after they tracked him down using his phone number. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office says officers found items including a jar of marijuana in his vehicle, KTVU reports. According to an arrest affidavit, when an officer asked him about the traffic stop and the 911 call, the teen said the officer "had no right to stop me." When he discovered that the deputy at the traffic stop hadn't been able to get his tag number and he was tracked down through the call, Jones said: "That's funny ... so I told on myself?" He also boasted: "No cop can catch me in my Hyundai Elantra, that thing is fast." Jones, who was already wanted for an outstanding warrant, faces charges including possession of a controlled substance. (Another Florida man hit a squad car while driving a lawn mower drunk.)
