Donald Trump Jr. will testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee behind closed doors in mid-June, a source tells CNN. The committee reached the deal with President Trump's eldest son after it subpoenaed him to appear before the committee, a decision that proved controversial for the committee's Republican chairman Sen. Richard Burr. As part of the deal, the committee agreed this will be the last time Trump Jr. is asked to appear before it as part of its investigation into Russian interference with the 2016 US presidential election. The committee also agreed to limit the appearance in time (two to four hours) and scope (five to six topics). Earlier Tuesday, sources revealed that Burr told colleagues the Trump Jr. subpoena was issued after Trump Jr. canceled two scheduled interviews with the committee, the AP reports.

Separately, it was also revealed Tuesday that the House Intelligence Committee is investigating whether attorneys for Trump, his family, and the Trump Organization obstructed that committee's Russia investigation, CNN reports. Committee chair Adam Schiff in March asked four Trump lawyers for documents and testimony relating to Michael Cohen's 2017 statement to Congress in which he lied about how long into the presidential campaign discussions regarding a Trump Tower Moscow project lasted. Schiff says Cohen's statement was "coordinated, reviewed, shaped and edited" by the attorneys and included "false materials" and "omission of fact" with the "intended effect of impeding the investigation." The lawyers rejected the request, citing overreach and attorney-client privilege. Schiff sent a followup letter this month giving a deadline—the end of last week—and a source says he is prepared to issue a subpoena if the attorneys don't cooperate.
