Another model has tragically died in Sao Paulo in less than a week: Brazilian model Caroline Bittencourt was on a catamaran Sunday when bad weather struck; she fell into the ocean and drowned. The 37-year-old's body was discovered late Monday near Cigarras Beach, Fox News reports, citing local media. Bittencourt's agent says the model's husband, Jorge Sestini, was in a "state of shock" after jumping in to the water in a failed attempt to rescue his wife. He "tried to save her," the agent says. "He saw Carol drowning and wasn't able to save her. It was a terrible moment for him."
Sestini was rescued after three hours in the water, the New York Post reports. Bittencourt, who also worked as a TV reporter, had worked with such designers as Valentino Garavani and Roberto Cavalli. Initial reports said Bittencourt jumped into the water to save her dogs, but the family has since denied those claims. As the winds whipped up, a big wave hit the boat and caused Bittencourt to lose her balance, they say, per Us.
