Game of Thrones Fans Quibble With Trump's Post

We know President Obama is a Game of Thrones fan; we're pretty sure President Trump isn't, or at least he hasn't seen the end of the seventh season yet. As part of what the Week calls Trump's "fixation" with memes from the hit HBO show, the president posted a photo Thursday on Instagram showing his face over a photo of a border fence of sorts, with the words "The Wall Is Coming" floating above the barrier. The phrase, a play on the GoT slogan "Winter Is Coming," has also been appropriated by the president for other purposes, including a "Sanctions Are Coming" poster positioned on the table in front of him at a Wednesday Cabinet meeting, USA Today reports.

That latter poster was the same one Trump got subtly taken to task for by HBO in early November. This time around, however, the wall meme is being mocked not by HBO, but by fans of the show. Although Trump insisted at Wednesday's meeting that "walls work" to keep outsiders from coming in, GoT die-hards point out that in the show's Season 7 finale, the Wall that keeps out the feared White Walkers and others actually didn't work, as a dragon that came back from the dead breathed fire on it and breached it, allowing hordes of the undead to pass through. "For someone who watches a lot of TV, @realDonaldTrump should know that even the @GameOfThrones wall isn't a panacea by the end of Season 7," CNN national security analyst Sam Vinograd tweeted.
