Sex and the City Star Misses ... the City

When Sarah Jessica Parker laments the old Manhattan that is slowly eroding—coffee shops and bodegas closing, Sex and the City bus tours parked outside Magnolia Bakery—her husband, Mathew Broderick, tells it to her straight: “That’s your fault!” New York magazine sits down with the star, who reminisces about the city of her youth.

“It was meant to be a Utopia,” she says of a childhood spent camping on Roosevelt Island, moving constantly, pursuing theater, and skirting the poverty line. “When I arrived in the city in 1976, New York was financially a wreck.
