The husband of a woman who was pushed in front of an oncoming train in Atlanta says his wife would be dead if his daughter had not jumped on the tracks to keep her mother from getting run over, the AP reports. Jerry Wenszell tells WSB-TV that Sue Wenszell "would not be here" if 28-year-old Katie Wenszell did not rush to help Sunday afternoon at the station in Atlanta's Midtown. The subway struck and dragged Katie after she had moved her unconscious mother and positioned her between the tracks so she would not get hit. Sue suffered a concussion and a fractured elbow, while Katie suffered a brain injury, had part of her right foot amputated, her left shoulder torn off and is undergoing facial reconstruction surgery.
Jerry Wenszell says Sue and five of their daughters were visiting Atlanta for an annual girls' trip. A man had pushed Sue while she was standing on the station's platform, he says, even though there was no eye or verbal contact between them. Faith in God is allowing Jerry Wenszell to be strong, and he says he prays the man's soul is saved, adding, "The only thing I want is to have him off the streets so that somebody else doesn't end up becoming a victim." Christopher Patrick Brooklin, 28, is accused of pushing Sue Wenszell and is charged with aggravated assault and battery. Brooklin appears to have some diminished mental capacity, authorities say.
