Barbie Has Her New Profession
Robotics Engineer Barbie sells for $13.99.   (Mattel)

After stints in medicine and music mixing, Barbie is trying to her hand at robotics. Mattel's "career of the year" Barbie is a robotics engineer, complete with safety glasses, laptop, and robot accessories. Mattel also partnered with Tynker to include free coding lessons and a workbook on computer programming, which CNET calls "a vast improvement" over Barbie's last science book. Mattel's chief technology officer, Sven Gerjets, says the idea is to "get more females involved" in engineering so "they are the employees that we hire in the next decade to fill the STEM-type jobs that are so critical." On shelves Tuesday, the doll also comes in four skin tones, per People. (More Barbie stories.)
