Eliot Spitzer was cleared of choking his ex-girlfriend at a hotel two years ago, but the New York Daily News reports a lawyer for Svetlana Zakharova Travis wants the former New York governor arrested based on a newly released audio recording. “The recording really speaks for itself and these threats are further evidence of the domestic violence that Eliot Spitzer perpetrated against my client, for which the Bronx County District Attorney's Office has desperately tried to cover up in their efforts to protect Eliot Spitzer,” Joseph Murray says. The 11-second audio clip was purportedly recorded by Travis during a phone call with Spitzer after she accused him of choking her.

"Go to Siberia and f---ing die, asshole," TMZ quotes Spitzer as saying on the recording. He adds: "Get out of my life. If I ever hear from you again, your parents will die." While Spitzer was cleared of assault, Travis was charged with extorting him. Travis settled that case for time served but didn't admit to defrauding the former governor. In another incident earlier this month, a man says Spitzer threatened to stab him in the penis with a knife after the former governor overheard him at a restaurant praising a person the New York Daily News calls a "longtime foe." “All I said was, ‘Ken Langone would have been the best president ever,’” Jamie Antolini says. He says the ensuing argument with Spitzer—complete with threats of genital butchery—lasted 20 minutes. (More Eliot Spitzer stories.)
