Kathy Griffin: Anderson and I Are No Longer Friends
The good old days.   (YouTube)

Kathy Griffin's 17-year friendship with Anderson Cooper is over. In an extensive interview with The Cut about the fallout from the photo shoot in which she held up a bloody Donald Trump mask in late May, the comedian reveals that while four of Cooper's colleagues at CNN contacted her to check in after CNN dumped her in the wake of the controversy, she heard nothing from Cooper himself. He issued his statement on the matter (in which he called the photo shoot "disgusting and completely inappropriate" and said he was "appalled" by it) without reaching out to Griffin.

Then, in multiple interviews after the fact, Cooper claimed he and Griffin were still friends, People reports. Despite those claims, he still hadn't contacted her, she tells The Cut; she didn't hear from him until Aug. 10, a date CNN confirms. Griffin says she was upset Cooper would publicly say they were still friends while privately failing to get in touch. He finally sent a series of text messages checking in with her, but she told him the friendship was over. A Cooper source tells The Cut he was simply "not ready to talk to her personally about" the photo because he was so "shocked and upset," but "he still considered her to be a friend, and was publicly supportive when asked about the controversy." See The Cut for more from the interview. (More Kathy Griffin stories.)
