America's growing obesity problem isn't just for humans. There's been a 196% increase in overweight dogs and a 158% increase in overweight cats over the past decade, People reports, citing data from Banfield Pet Hospital. Banfield's 2017 State of Pet Health Report looked at the medical data of 2.5 million dogs and 500,000 cats and ranked the states with the most obese pets. Here are the top five states for overweight dogs and cats:

Dogs

  1. Minnesota: 41% of dogs diagnosed as overweight
  2. Nebraska: 39% of dogs diagnosed as overweight
  3. Michigan: 38% of dogs diagnosed as overweight
  4. Idaho: 38% of dogs diagnosed as overweight
  5. Nevada: 36% of dogs diagnosed as overweight
Cats
  1. Minnesota: 46% of cats diagnosed as overweight
  2. Nebraska: 43% of cats diagnosed as overweight
  3. Iowa: 42% of cats diagnosed as overweight
  4. Idaho: 40% of cats diagnosed as overweight
  5. Delaware and Michigan (tied): 39% of cats diagnosed as overweight
