If you've been putting off having kids because you're scared of what you see on parents' Facebook feeds, because you don't think you can swing it financially, or because [insert laundry list of excuses here], new mom Georgi Boorman is here to tell you that "you should definitely have a baby" in 2017. In her piece at the Federalist, Boorman doesn't deny that parenting a newborn is challenging, citing the sleep deprivation, anxiety, and even the "generous handful of emotional breakdowns" she's had since her daughter was born two months ago, as well as the struggle to fit other aspects of her old life (e.g., work, friends) in with her new role as mother. "They must all be carefully sewn into the new quilt of my life one patch at a time," she writes.

But Boorman explains the rewards of parenting are what make all of the sacrifices bearable. She notes the "joy of parenting" that can be found in everything from a "toothless grin" (to her, worth an hour of crying) to an all-out baby guffaw (a reasonable trade for a sleepless night). For new parents, there's nothing like the wonder of rediscovering everything through the eyes of a curious infant or taking on the honor of being the baby's "favorite people in her world." There's also the fact that nothing else you're doing right now is "this real," per Boorman. "Don't let all the whining, the snarky memes, the talk from women who supposedly 'regret having kids' fool you," she advises. "You should definitely have a baby." Read Boorman's entire pro-parenting essay at the Federalist. (This mom went on a rant against children's vitamins.)
