At least nine people were injured on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus Monday in what was initially labeled an "active shooter" situation, reports the Columbus Dispatch. A suspect is dead, and the school has since sounded the all-clear. "Shelter in Place lifted," reads an OSU tweet. "Scene is now secure." Of those taken to the hospital, one person was in critical condition and the rest are stable, says a fire official. It's not clear whether any of them were shot, however. Police say some were stabbed or hit by a car, and others have injuries still being evaluated. Police have not speculated about a motive.
Earlier, students received a text reading, "Buckeye Alert: Active Shooter on campus. Run Hide Fight. Watts Hall. 19th and College." Watts Hall is a materials science and engineering building, reports the AP, but authorities shed no light on what might have happened. Run-hide-fight is becoming standard protocol for such warnings: Students are told to run from the scene if they can, hide if they can't, and fight back if the first two options are impossible.
