Leonard Cohen now rests among his kinsmen, "exactly as he'd asked," wrote son Adam Cohen in a Facebook post late Saturday night. "My sister and I just buried my father in Montreal. With only immediate family and a few lifelong friends present, he was lowered into the ground in an unadorned pine box, next to his mother and father," he wrote of Thursday's burial. The Star reports the burial in the Shaar Hashomayim Cemetery took place before news of Cohen's death, which occurred three days prior in Los Angeles, was announced.

A statement released Friday by Rabbi Adam Scheier and Cantor Gideon Zelermyer explained, "Leonard's wish was to be laid to rest in a traditional Jewish rite beside his parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents." As for son Adam's post, it continues, "There's so much I wish I could thank him for, just one last time. I'd thank him for the comfort he always provided, for the wisdom he dispensed, for the marathon conversations, for his dazzling wit and humor." Read it in full here, or read about the letter Cohen penned just months prior to his dying muse, in which he wrote, "Know that I am so close behind you that if you stretch out your hand, I think you can reach mine."
