Mia Farrow's 27-year-old son, Thaddeus Wilk Farrow, has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Connecticut Office of Chief Medical Examiner tells People. Police earlier said Thaddeus was found in his car suffering a life-threatening injury on Route 67 around 12:45pm Wednesday; the cause of death was previously reported to have been a car crash. He was pronounced dead at a hospital in Danbury at 2:30pm. Police also said earlier there was "no criminal aspect," per the Hartford Courant, and the medical examiner's office is now saying the cause of death is suicide. Born in Calcutta, India, Thaddeus was a paraplegic, having contracted polio before he was adopted by Farrow in 1994, reports TMZ.
Thaddeus spoke to Vanity Fair in 2013 about his adoption. "It was scary to be brought to a world of people whose language I did not understand, with different skin colors," he said. "The fact that everyone loved me was a new experience, overwhelming at first." At the time of that interview, he was working as a mechanic while studying to become a police officer. Mia Farrow previously lost two children, both adopted from Vietnam: Lark died in 2008 from complications from pneumonia, while Tam died from heart issues in 2000. Farrow responded to Thaddeus' death on Twitter, writing, "We're devastated by the loss of Thaddeus, our beloved son and brother. He was a wonderful, courageous person who overcame so much hardship in his short life." She included a link to a suicide prevention group. (More Mia Farrow stories.)
