Chris Drury’s power play goal 1:46 into overtime gave the New York Rangers a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Despite the loss, Pittsburgh remains in the top spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race with a two-point lead on Montreal. The win moves New York into fifth-place. reports the Associated Press. In the night's only other NHL action:

  • Ilya Kovalchuk scored twice in the third period to lift the Atlanta Thrashers past the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-0. Kovalchuk now has 52 goals on the season, which is tied for his career-high. Kari Lehtonen stopped 36 shots to earn the shutout. Both teams had already been eliminated from the playoffs and are the two worst teams in the Eastern Conference.
