Hours after Julian Assange said WikiLeaks was "working on" hacking Donald Trump's tax returns, WikiLeaks denied it's doing any such thing, Politico reports. During an interview Friday night on Real Time with Bill Maher, Maher pointed out that WikiLeaks is releasing hacked material from the Democratic National Committee but nothing from the Trump campaign, accusing Assange of trying to "f--- with the one person who stands in the way of us being ruled by Donald Trump." Maher asked why WikiLeaks doesn't hack Trump's tax returns. "We're working on it," Assange replied.

But WikiLeaks denied that in a tweet Saturday morning, saying it was a "joke from a comedy show" and they are "'working on' encouraging whistleblowers." Trump's refusal to release his tax returns is strange for a presidential candidate in the past few decades and has led to speculation they might show connections to Russia, CNN reports. According to the Hill, Trump's campaign denies that. Meanwhile, Assange has promised to release more material damaging to Clinton prior to the election. Assange also used his appearance on Real Time to trash Edward Snowden for suggesting WikiLeaks should be more careful about what it releases. He said Snowden is just trying to get a pardon from President Obama. (More Julian Assange stories.)
