Bernie Sanders' Delegates Boo Him

Sen. Bernie Sanders urged his delegates to the Democratic National Convention on Monday to help elect Hillary Clinton as president. He was met with loud boos, the AP reports. Reaction from some Sanders' delegates afterward:

• Delaware delegate Jeff Day: "From the atmosphere in that room, it's not looking like a unified Democratic party going into the convention."
• Iowa delegate Jason Brown said Clinton must do more to reach out to Sanders' supporters: "I'm all for growing the party and healing the party, expanding the party. But the word unity without action is really meaningless."

• Missouri delegate Jackson Thompson said he would support Clinton "only out of necessity" to defeat Donald Trump. "Bernie is clearly supporting Hillary Clinton. But his supporters are disgusted by the fact that it has come to light that the fix has been in from the beginning—that it wasn't a fair election."
• Michigan delegate Bruce Fealk: "We are all scared of Donald Trump, but we also have misgivings about Hillary."
• Nevada delegate Aaron Ford: "The team of Clinton-Kaine is a 100 times better than the team of Trump and Pence."
• Kentucky delegate Mary Nishimuta: "I for one will vote for the Democratic nominee. I think the messaging is clear that we do have to defeat Trump."
• Georgia delegate Vincent Fort: "There is a lot of ill will among the delegates but at this point, it's like after you break up with a girlfriend or a boyfriend. The initial stage is the roughest. I really don't think it's going to be ongoing chaos."
• Rhode Island delegate Aaron Regunberg: "We need to do everything we can to make sure Secretary Clinton defeats Donald Trump and his hate-filled campaign. That's critical. ... I think there's a small number of folks who are, all the way, mad, and it's going to take time for them to come around."

Meanwhile, Debbie Wasserman Schultz didn't open the DNC after all, the DNC apologized to Sanders over the "inexcusable remarks" about him recently leaked in DNC emails, and the convention's opening prayer was also interrupted by booing. (More Election 2016 stories.)
