The GOP's new power couple of Donald Trump and Mike Pence debuted its new logo in a fundraising email to supporters Friday, the Daily Beast reports. And the internet, being the internet, couldn't get its mind out of the gutter. The AV Club, which rounds up a bunch of the best reactions, describes the logo thusly: “It shows a giant, phallic T penetrating a helpless P while some red stripes stand off [to] the side, powerless to interfere.” “How are we supposed to explain the new Trump logo to our children??” tweets a managing editor at CBS News. “We can look forward to a veritable jackhammer of penetrating messaging from Trump, right through to the climax in November," Slate piles on.
Experts weren't much kinder to the new logo. Josh Miles, principal at a graphic design company, tells the Indianapolis Star the logo is "trying too hard." And graphic designer Marcel Cornett says it seems "quickly made" and "doesn’t come across in the way that they would like it to." Slate quotes Trump University Branding 101 (which, yes, is a book that actually exists), which says you "need to be sure that your logo leads to the attributes you want associated with your brand.” Graphic designer Cyrus Highsmith tells the AP the new logo does that, demonstrating that Trump is in charge. It's not the first design-related controversy of the election. People were disappointed when Hillary Clinton unveiled a logo with an arrow pointing right instead of left.
