Supreme Court: Bans on Assault Weapons Stay

The Supreme Court on Monday allowed bans on assault-style weapons like the one used in the Orlando shooting to remain in place in Connecticut and New York. Without comment, the court declined to hear a challenge to bans on semi-automatic weapons passed after the school attack in Newtown, Conn., reports the AP. Monday's decision wasn't a big surprise, notes the Washington Post, given that the Supreme Court has repeatedly turned away challenges to gun restrictions. Seven states and the District of Columbia have enacted laws banning such weapons. The others are California, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, and New Jersey, according to the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.
