Memphis Turns It On Late

Letting a weaker opponent hang around far longer than they wanted, South Region No. 1 seed Memphis still showed they had enough to defeat 16th seeded Texas-Arlington with ease. The Southland Conference champion Mavericks were still within 13 points of the Tigers with 14 minutes left, before a pair of Memphis three-pointers pushed the margin into the 20-point range, reports the Commercial-Appeal.

"This first game is a hard one for everybody," Tigers coach John Calipari said about his teamn's sluggishness. "You hope you just come and blow somebody out, but the other team is playing inspired, and it just doesn't happen very often." Memphis was led by Chris Douglas-Roberts' 23 points, while Derrick Rose and Antonio Anderson each added 17. Next up for the Tigers is 8th seed Mississippi State. (More Memphis Tigers stories.)
