Madeleine McCann has been missing for nine years, and while sightings of the child have been reported worldwide (example here), her mother now tells the Sun she believes Maddie was probably never taken out of Portugal. Maddie went missing on May 3, 2007, and Kate McCann says that the research she has done on similar cases in the years revealed that while "it's all only speculation ... [it's] usually the case" that abducted children aren't taken far.

The Algarve resort of Praia da Luz was "where she last was and I don’t think she’s been taken a million miles from there," says McCann. (The number of UK officers on the hunt for the girl stands at four.)
