Coldplay kicked off a jubilant and colorful Super Bowl halftime show with lead singer Chris Martin appearing to spend most of the time in mid-air, the Guardian reports. They performed "Yellow," "Viva La Vida," and "Adventure of a Lifetime" as people around them played violins, twirled umbrellas, and marched around the stage in full marching band regalia. Bruno Mars then performed "Uptown Funk" with a cadre of dancing men in black, and Beyonce appeared on the field to perform "Formation" with black-clad female dancers taking up the rear.

Soon Beyonce, Mars, and Coldplay performed together while video excerpts recalled performers of Super Bowls past, including Whitney Houston, U2, Michael Jackson, James Brown, and Bruce Springsteen. The jam-packed, 12-minute show ended with young people cramming the stage, clapping and singing along. The message appearing over the crowd at the end: "Believe in Love," reports Billboard.
