TMZ got a look at the legal documents in the Don McLean domestic violence case, and the gossip site says the "American Pie" singer's wife of 30 years, Pat, was indeed the alleged victim. According to TMZ, Pat says McLean assaulted her for four hours Sunday night into Monday morning before she was able to call 911, with him uttering threats like "I want to strangle you so bad" while squeezing her temples so hard that her head still hurt days later. Per TMZ, Pat, who got a restraining order against her husband Tuesday, says similar incidents have occurred before and that he's even threatened her with a gun.

The Bangor Daily News also got a look at the alleged victim's statement, though the newspaper doesn't name her. Per the Daily News, the unnamed woman says McLean had physically and verbally assaulted her for years, with incidents dating back to 1990, but that his temper improved about 20 years ago before recently getting bad again. She says that during the Sunday night incident, "he was scaring me with the intensity of his rage and the craziness in his eyes." McLean's lawyer says the singer will be pleading not guilty, and that "there are two sides to the story here." (More Don McLean stories.)
