Authorities say an Appalachian Trail hiker in Maryland has died after falling from Annapolis Rock. Maryland Natural Resources Police say the 44-year-old man was taking photographs, jumping from rock to rock, about 10:45am Sunday when he lost his balance and fell. Officials say other hikers began administering first aid, but the man was pronounced dead about an hour later. He's being named as University of Reading physics professor Alexei Likhtman, reports Sky News, and was attending a conference in Baltimore. "The victim was photographing the area and tripped and fell approximately between 40 and 50 feet," says a Maryland Natural Resources Police rep. "He had a tripod with a camera on it, the camera fell and he fell." (More Appalachian Trail stories.)
