Chicago net minder Corey Crawford, appearing in just his sixth career game, made 44 saves, but it wasn’t enough as the Red Wings defeated the Blackhawks 3-1; Detroit out shot Chicago 47-20. Kirk Maltby, Pavel Datsyuk, and Johan Franzen scored for the NHL-leading Red Wings, who have now won four straight. Rene Borque had Chicago’s lone goal, according to the Associated Press. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • Vincent Lecavalier’s hat trick lifted the moribund Tampa Bay Lightning over the New York Islanders 8-4. The win gives Tampa Bay coach John Tortorella 235 for his career, the most for an American-born NHL coach.
  • Evgeni Nabokov had 26 saves as San Jose defeated Nashville 2-1. It was a franchise record 10th straight victory for the Sharks.
