Gov. Eliot Spitzer of New York has informed his senior staff that he was involved with a prostitution ring, the New York Times reports. Spitzer has canceled scheduled events for the day and is set to make an announcement this afternoon from his office in Manhattan. Spitzer, who rose to prominence as the state's attorney general, is married and has three children.

The papers show that a client met with a prostitute from the ring—the Emperor's Club VIP—in Washington in mid-February, when the governor was in town. (More Eliot Spitzer stories.)
