Hillary vs. Joe? It Wouldn't Be Pretty

The rumor mill has been in overdrive that Joe Biden is seriously considering a presidential run, especially after he lunched with Elizabeth Warren over the weekend. But if the VP does indeed jump into the fray, it could be a "game-changer," Michael Tomasky writes for the Daily Beast. "Even something short of an official alliance, a nudge-wink implication that Warren is somehow on team Biden, makes him a much more serious player," he writes. But regardless if Warren is on board, a Biden-Clinton showdown isn't going to be pretty, he adds, and it could even end up being "far more acrimonious" than when Hillary took on Obama for the Democratic nomination in 2008.

There are a few reasons for that—among them that Clinton had to give up the historic possibility of becoming the first woman president and watch Obama become the first black president instead. "The woman would have to wait, as women so often do," Tomasky writes. "Well, she's waited. … And now, to a lot of Democrats, it's her turn. The party can make history twice in a row. Imagine!" But not if an "old white guy is going to saunter in and step on that," he adds. "And if he's going to do it, he's not going to be able to do it politely." Read Tomasky's full column.
