Hottest Month Recorded in 135 Years: Last Month

If you lost some water weight in July, you can probably credit the blazing temperatures: Last month was the hottest month the planet has seen since record keeping began in 1880, according to the NOAA. The combined average temperature over land and sea reached 61.86 degrees, 1.46 degrees above the 20th-century average and 0.036 degrees above the next hottest month: July 2011, reports USA Today. This July also marked the 365th consecutive month with an above-average global temperature. Speaking of extreme weather, CNN reports that the first Category 1 hurricane of the season, Danny, has formed and could make landfall in the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico next week.
