Ohio State's marching band may indeed be the "best damn band in the land," as supporters say, but the band is dealing with a mess today after the Wall Street Journal got a look at its book of parody songs. The worst is called "Goodbye Kramer," sung to the tune of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'." Sample lyric: "small town Jew…who took the cattle train to you know where.” And, "Oh the baking never ends, It goes on and on and on and on.” Another line has Nazis “searching for people livin’ in their neighbor’s attic." The university today said the Holocaust parody is an example of "shocking behavior" that won't be tolerated anymore.

The parody book is from 2012, and its intro warns band members not to let outsiders get a look. It also says that some songs may seem offensive. "If so, you can either ignore them, or you can suck it up, act like you got a pair and have a good time singing them.” The school fired band director Jonathan Waters last year because he ignored a "sexualized culture" in the band. "I never saw the 2012 version which included the Holocaust song," he said today in a statement cited by AP. "I think the whole idea is repulsive." Another song takes a dig at Nebraska: “There’s no place as gay as Nebraska, except maybe Michigan U. Where the girls are all hairy, and the boys are all fairies, on your chest we will poo.” (More Ohio State University stories.)
