It has the slightly strange designation of being the biggest ranch in the US with a continuous fence, but the qualifiers end there: The Waggoner Estate in Texas is huge—at 800 square miles, it's bigger than Los Angeles and New York City combined, reports Bloomberg. And it's also for sale, for the hefty sum of $725 million. The eventual buyer won't just get a vast swath of land that spans six counties: The property includes two main compounds, 1,200 oil wells, hundreds of prized quarter horses, thousands of cows, about 30,000 acres of cultivated land, and all kinds of history (Will Rogers liked to visit).
“To me, the ranch has unlimited blue sky,” Dallas broker Bernard Uechtritz tells the Guardian. “It was developed when Oklahoma was still Indian territory. Abraham Lincoln was still in Congress.” The estate isn't desperate for buyers. About 600 have expressed interest, but the Waggoner family is being selective in trying to find someone who will mostly keep the ranch as-is instead of divvying it up to make a quick profit. The list of prospective buyers has been narrowed to about 12, and the "winner" will be announced soon. (If it's just not enough space, perhaps this ranch in Australia will do.)
