Minions proved anything but diminutive in their box office debut this weekend: As USA Today reports, the Despicable Me henchmen pulled in $115.2 million, notching the second-biggest opening ever for an animated flick. Shrek the Third holds that record with $121.6 million. Minions scored the No. 1 single day haul for a cartoon, notes USA Today, when it grossed $46.2 million on Friday. Driving the feat is perhaps the word of young mouths: 77% of kids who saw the film would definitely recommend it. Rounding out the top three this weekend, per the AP: Jurassic World with $18.1 million, and Disney's Inside Out with $17.1 million. (Read more box office stories.)
