After returning a donation for $100,000 that stipulated the money couldn't be used to support transgender girls, the Girl Scouts of Western Washington decided it was still important to raise the money it had declined. That $100,000 amounts to nearly a third of its 2015 financial assistance program, it explained, which allows girls who otherwise couldn't participate or go to camp to do just that. So they set up an Indiegogo page with the title "Girl Scouts is #ForEVERYGirl," and in just under two days the response has far surpassed the group's original $100,000 goal.
As of this post, crowdfunded donations exceeded $247,000, and there are still 29 days left in the fundraiser. "The only way we're going to fulfill our mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place is if we make sure there aren't any barriers in place for girls' success," the group's PR director tells Mashable.
