Taylor Swift isn't the only celebrity activist of the week. Ryan Gosling, moved by a Humane Society investigation that found gruesome mistreatment of chickens at one of Costco's big egg suppliers, has written a letter to Costco's CEO asking the chain to start selling only cage-free eggs, People reports. "Video footage revealed abhorrent cruelty including rows upon rows of birds confined in filth-laden cages with the mummified corpses of their cage-mates—eating, sleeping, defecating, and laying eggs on top of dead birds," Gosling wrote.

"It is appalling that Costco has been selling these eggs with deceptive labeling on cartons featuring graphics of birds living out in a green pasture," he continued. "You’re already eliminating cages for veal calves and pigs—don’t you feel that chickens also deserve the same mercy?" ETOnline notes that Costco said all the way back in 2007 it planned to move toward cage-free eggs, but has not yet set an actual timeline. (More Ryan Gosling stories.)
