Anyone who doesn't care to purchase EL James' newest book in the Fifty Shades of Grey series might want to steer clear of bookstores today. A million copies of Grey—essentially Fifty Shades of Grey told from the perspective of BDSM's most notorious fictional fan, Christian Grey—are now available on bookshelves all because James says fans "asked… and asked… and asked" for a look into Grey's head. The title was already the top pre-order book of the year on Amazon’s Kindle, and the ebook version released at midnight is currently No. 1. James only announced the book in an Instagram post earlier this month, exposing what Reuters calls "one of the best-kept secrets of publishing."

James claims "Christian might have some surprises in store" for fans, but the book doesn't live up to that claim, reports the AP. It starts with a flashback to Grey's childhood before he meets virginal student Anastasia Steele and wonders how her skin might look "pink and warmed from the bite of a cane." He also reveals he ran a background check on her, per the Guardian. Oh, and there's plenty of praise for Steele’s sexual prowess in what the AP calls driving "him lustily nuts" over the way she bites her bottom lip. But there's nothing truly shocking, unless you count the language. Wales Online notes Grey "isn't afraid of strong language," calling the latest installment "the raunchiest yet."
