It wasn't a pretty sight outside a Colorado apartment complex on April 14 after 19-year-old Austin Essig jumped out of a third-story window. "I had to hold him down," a resident tells CBS Denver. "He was all covered in glass and blood and everything." Essig is now home recuperating from the serious injuries he sustained—CBS reports he suffered a "shattered" hip and broken wrist—and his mom was yesterday arrested. Police say she gave him the pot brownie that apparently prompted the jump; providing marijuana to an underage person is typically a misdemeanor, but Julieane Jablonski, 38, was also charged with tampering with a witness, a felony. The Fort Collins deputy police chief tells Reuters, "She allegedly attempted to get other witnesses to change their stories."

Police say that after Essig ate the brownie, witnesses claim he started acting oddly, dashed toward the window, and hurled himself out "without hesitation," per Reuters. A police investigation found Essig ingested no other substance before or after the brownie, the Denver Post notes. Essig took to the Fort Collins Police Services' Facebook page this week to add some clarification to the case, telling other commenters that "I followed dosage instructions (only ate one)" and that "my reaction to the marijuana was far from normal." He also adds, in perhaps his biggest understatement: "It was quite the trip for a brownie, I can tell you that much." (The first death tied to legal Colorado marijuana: a teen who jumped off a balcony after eating a pot cookie.)
