Russia has made two arrests in the murder of Kremlin critic Boris Nemtsov, but there's little explanation yet of the suspects' possible motive. The head of the Russia's Federal Security Bureau went on state TV to announce the arrests of two men from the Caucasus region, which CNN notes has long been a source of rebellion against Moscow. Announcing the arrests on TV is an unusual move, and the BBC thinks it's a sign that the Kremlin wants to be seen as taking the case seriously.
The FSB's Alexander Bortnikov made a point to say that Vladimir Putin, who has personally promised to shepherd the investigation, has been informed. The men, identified as Anzor Gubashev and Zaur Dadayev, were reportedly arrested after the car used in the shooting on Feb. 27 was recovered and yielded unspecified evidence. Nemtsov was killed on the eve of an opposition rally, and supporters continue to point the finger at Putin himself. (More Boris Nemtsov stories.)
